North Kingstown |
Dates |
October 13, 2018 - October 13, 2018 |
Description: | From Harvest Festival Website: In 1919 the Fox family transformed the former plantation into a modern dairy farm. They developed a purebred milk-producing cow registered as the Cocumcussoc [sic] Ayrshire and operated a Wickford retail milk route and an ice cream and milk bar. Smith's Castle was a dairy farm from 1919 to 1937.
We will be celebrating the harvest season, with a focus on our history as a dairy farm.
This event is a fun and educational time for children of all ages. Docents will be available for house tours and University of Rhode Island Master Gardeners will be available in the Herb and Dye Garden for information and to provide free soil testing. The new Woodland Trails (Spring Path, Old Farm Road Trail and Sea View Railroad Path) will be open for your enjoyment.
The Fiddlers Club of Rhode Island, Ladies of the Rolling Pin and the music group 6 Years will entertain you. There will be colonial games, face painting, a pumpkin roll maze and other events such as farm exhibits and demonstrations of butter and cheese making.
Vendors and artisans will be on hand with handcrafted items, goods and food. Enjoy our special apple crisp, ice cream and more during this day of family fun.
Hartley's Meat Pies may be pre-ordered by calling Gail at the Castle (***) ***-****).
